Workplace Injury Cost Calculator
A free calculator that estimates the indirect and total cost of a workplace injury from its direct (insured) cost, and the sales revenue needed to cover the loss at your profit margin. It is based on OSHA's $afety Pays model.
Indirect cost = direct cost × a multiplier that depends on the size of the direct cost: 4.5 when the direct cost is under $3,000, 1.6 from $3,000 to $4,999, 1.2 from $5,000 to $9,999, and 1.1 at $10,000 or more. Total cost = direct cost + indirect cost. Sales to break even = total cost ÷ profit margin. The preset injury costs on the page are illustrative averages. Your actual costs depend on your insurance and operation, so treat the result as a planning figure and not an accounting figure.
